Nine Weeks Test Information
The Bloomington secondary campuses use nine weeks testing to monitor student learning. Each grading period, core class teachers administer a benchmark test to determine how much of the content they have taught has been mastered by students. These tests are an important part of the learning process because they allow teachers to adjust and individualize instruction for students and give them the best possible chance to be successful not only in middle and high school classes, but also on the STAAR / STAAR EOC exams.
How Can I Help My Student With Nine Weeks Tests?
In general the following at home supports will help your child have a better chance at being successful on benchmarks or any test for that matter.
First of all - encourage your child to READ, READ, READ. Reading helps kids think critically, build background knowledge, be exposed to cultures, see different points of view, and develop their sense of justice. All of these skills help students become successful on tests! Reading with your child, having them read to you, and talking about what they are reading is something that parents/guardians can always do to help.
The night before benchmarks students should get a good night's rest.
Students should report to school on time and avoid being absent if at all possible.
Make sure students get a good breakfast either at home or by getting them to school on time for one in our cafeteria.
Stay up to date with your child's grades and progress through Parent Portal and
communication with teachers.
Look over and discuss reviews sent home from your child's teachers.
The importance and impact of the involvement of a parent/guardian in a student's education can never be replaced. Please do not hesitate to contact your child's teachers with questions or concerns. We are here to work with you!
